Das Josephinum wurde zu einem der besten Museen in Wien gewählt.
#2: Josephinum | Housing the precious collections of the Medical University of Vienna is this representative poster child of neo-classical architecture in Vienna (the building was completed in 1785) which dates back to Joseph’s II short-lived era. It incorporated new ideas at the time to boost the health of both teaching staff and students: high ceilings, large windows, and bright rooms. Watch out for the wax models on the first floor, arranged according to anatomical areas such as ligaments and muscles.
What’s on: Happening till October 8 is the “de oculis” exhibition, featuring the Josephinum’s own collections, plus, for the first time, selected items—from scientific instruments to everyday artefacts themed around to the eye and sight—from the donated collection of ophthalmologist and lifelong collector Hermann Aichmair. Other contemporary artists, such as Nadja Bournonville, will also have interventions at the exhibition.
